Dress Code
These standards were created to ensure all students are prepared for, and familiar with, contemporary professional norms; to promote the safe and healthy development of all student bodies and perceptions of bodies; and to foster mutual pride and respect for all students in the school community. Faculty and administration collaborate on enforcing these standards. However, any questions about them should be directed to the Division Head and/or divisional Dean of Student Life. They have the sole authority for interpreting them.
Dress Standards
These are the minimal standards that must exist to ensure that all dress choices reflect proudly on the spirit of our learning community at all times. These apply to all dress on campus throughout the variety of school activities and events—including “Senior Dress” as well as “special dress” days. There are never exceptions to these Dress Standards: anything worn to school must be (1) in good physical condition, (2) free of any images, words, or symbols that are inappropriate, (3) safe and comfortable in all school activities, and (4) covering all undergarments throughout range of motion of the school day.
Uniform Standards
Additionally, these daily, expected standards exist to provide students and families certainty around dress options. These are the assumed standards everyday. And any exceptions to these will be communicated by administrators on specific “special” dress days for relevant on-campus events. Without communicated exceptions, students must adhere to the Uniform Standards daily.
Footwear. All students are expected to wear socks and closed-toe, closed-heel shoes with laces. Athletic shoes are preferred because they are comfortable for all day wear, safe for all activities, and provide opportunities for self-expression.
Bottoms. All students are expected to wear navy pants or shorts that fasten at the waist or the uniformed-approved skirt, skort, or jumper. This expressly excludes all bottoms that have an elastic or draw-string waist, like athletic shorts. The only exception to this is navy leggings, which may also be worn with the uniform skirt, skort, or jumper at any point in the year. Additionally, navy sweatpants are added to the Uniform Standards and allowed only between the end of Thanksgiving Break and the start of Mardi Gras Break.
Tops. All students are expected to wear a white, collared uniform shirt or navy, white, or gold Episcopal-approved sweatshirt or hoodie over an Episcopal uniform standard shirt. Students cannot wear athletic practice gear. Additionally, current Seniors are also allowed to wear college sweatshirts, and all students may wear “spirit” shirts on Fridays.
Coats & Accessories. When appropriate, students may wear navy or Episcopal-appoved jackets and/or coats. Students are encouraged to wear limited amounts of accessories & jewelry. Hats are not generally permitted, and hoods should not be worn indoors.
